With Earth Day just around the corner, it gets us thinking: When was the last time I went to the farmers' market? Why don't I grow my own vegetables or spices? Do I know of even one family farm located in my area?

Then comes the inevitable question: Am I neglecting my Farmville crops?

More than 82 million people log in to the wildly popular Facebook application each month. To put that number in perspective, it's just over 1.2% of the world's total population, or 26.7% of the United States population.

Here's a different online social networking tool that will connect you with other eco-savvy foodies by your (and their) proximity to growers and purveyors of organic, fresh, often family-farmed vegetables. On these sites, you can seek out:

• Local Farms (includes Ranches) 
• Farmer's Markets showcasing Local Farms 
• Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs) from Local Farms
• Agricultural Support Businesses that Support Local Farms
• Grocery stores & Restaurants that purchase from Local Farms

In honor of Earth Day and the real-life farms that inspired the social networking facsimile, why not spend a little extra time outdoors, and support your local farms and farmers. It'll be just like Farmville - only you'll actually get to eat what you sow.
